Daniel Lismore
A regular on every great party's guest list, Daniel Lismore is a walking work of art. His bottomless well of inspiration could only be dreamed of.
Tell us about yourself, your background and how you ended up where you are today.
I grew up in a village called Fillongley. Moved to London when I was 17 to become a model. I got lost in nightlife for a few years and gave it up to focus on a fashion label. I then moved away from the fashion world and concentrated on creating museum exhibitions at my works.
What is your personal philosophy?
I actually don't have one. Day by day and things change I and I learn more as life goes on. Everything I do is led by a gut feeling.
What does a typical day consist of for Daniel Lismore?
I've never had a typical day since I moved to London. I get up when I need to as long as I have had 8 hours sleep. I do whatever is in my diary and usually don't come home until everything in my diary is done. I love to work and never have a day off.
You are known for your flamboyant style. Where did this passion for dressing up come from?
I don't think about it as dressing up I just think about it as dressing. Originally it started when I was a child my parents are antiques dealers so I was observing all kinds of beauty from around the world. I am obsessed with history and how are the people live In different continents. I realised that fashion and dressing hasn't really budged since the Victorian times when everyone started to dress like each other.
Your style is completely unique. How would you describe it and where do you get the inspiration for your look and outfits?
I don't think there's any description I can give it because it changes so often. Inspired by most things I see whether it's colours or ideas what other ways of living. I'm inspired a lot when I lucid dream and just created an opera at the English National Opera by using dream tequniques.
How do you make the ensembles?
Guided by color texture and shape and I build like an architect till I feel it looks right.
How long does it take to get ready and describe the process?
It takes about 20 minutes to get ready. I start with a base put on my makeup and then it's kind of like painting a picture just with fabrics and objects.
How does it feel to be on every event producer's ideal guest list?
I'm very honoured to be invited to really amazing things. Recently I've given up going to so many events because I'm only focusing on making art. I prefer to go to my friends things rather than something I can't relate to.
What happens when Daniel Lismore entertains? Describe one of your own personal events.
I never entertain, I like to be entertained. I think there is a common perception that someone dressed up would be an entertainer. I let other people do that, I am a people watcher. I don't dance and as flamboyant as I look I'm quiet and I sit in the corner. I'm not a performer. I'd rather have a decent conversation with somebody interesting.
Who would be on your own dream guest list?
I'm very fortunate to have partied and met most at my idols. It would be great to hang out with Madonna just for an evening.
What has been the most memorable event you have attended and why?
Every year I go to Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief. I believe it's the best event on the planet. Everyone is there everyone is having fun and there's no one being pretentious. There's a lot of money made the great courses and they're always night to remember.
What makes a great event?
I think real people make great events. I love partying with doctors and psychologists. They always seem to be the most fun.
